Achieving systemic change for high-quality learning in nature throughout Switzerland
Objectif
To integrate outdoor learning into the Swiss school system, enabling youth to benefit from proven advantages in learning, mental health, resilience, and pro-social behavior.
Contexte et Challenges
In an era dominated by screens and declining attention spans, the Swiss education system must overcome its inherent rigidity. This project addresses administrative and organizational barriers by engaging all stakeholders—from policymakers and universities to parents—to foster a systemic shift toward regular nature-based pedagogy.
Why it matters
Nature-based learning boosts creativity and critical thinking for over 95% of students. It provides a vital solution to increasing passivity, equipping the younger generation with the essential skills needed to navigate the complex challenges of the 21st century.
Areas of actions
• Institutionalization through pilot projects at municipal and cantonal levels to develop scalable integration models.
• Teacher training and certification within pedagogical universities to ensure a sufficient workforce capable of implementing outdoor methods.
• National and international coordination via a steering committee and community-building to facilitate access to pedagogical tools and expertise.
